It’s not always easy to live a healthy lifestyle in Dubai’s summer months. With a climate that doesn’t lend itself to outdoor activities, we are far more likely to divide our time between the sofa and an array of tempting brunches, restaurants, and evening drink offers. If that sounds all too familiar, we have found the perfect treatment to kick-start a healthier lifestyle – the Detox Day at Dubai Herbal Centre.
The day begins with a full body composition analysis; a non-invasive treatment to measure components such as weight, body fat percentage, body mass index, fat and fat-free mass, and hydration levels. This gives the experts an understanding of what makes up your body weight so that they can better assess your health and physical condition.
Next on the agenda was a 45-minute Colon Hydrotherapy session – not exactly glamorous, but a treatment that has been proven to be very effective to clean your body from the inside and aid issues with digestion. Afterwards, we were offered a choice of fresh juices, which included wheatgrass. A session of acupuncture followed to eliminate toxins from the body. Not everyone agrees on the benefits of this alternative therapy, but there is evidence that it also aids relaxation and can even promote male and female fertility !
The session concludes with a cupping session, where glass cups are placed on the back on specific acupuncture points and left in place for 10 minutes. When they are removed, the skin underneath will have turned red due to the congestion flow – so not the ideal treatment if you are planning on attending a cocktail party or heading away on holiday, as the red marks take up to 5 days to disappear. The vacuum in the cup brings blood and lymph to the area, which is said to promote circulation and healing. Before we left the centre, we were given a 5-day supply of herbal supplements so that we could continue the treatment at home.
So, how did we feel afterwards? We didn’t notice any immediate improvements in the way our body looked and felt, but we did feel like we were finally taking a proactive approach to being healthy, which encouraged us to continue the health drive at home.
