Few people in Dubai know about the Japanese restaurant Icho – and they are missing out… This place has everything – a fantastic setting on the 49th floor of the new Radisson Hotel, a breathtaking 360-degree view of Dubai (from the desert to the beach), and most importantly, a modern menu of delicious Japanese food at very reasonable prices.
Our meal started with Fried Aubergine in Dashi Soup (35 AED); a clear broth with thick pieces of aubergine. It was simple, but tasty – and the vegetable added welcome texture and intense flavour to the dish.
We followed this with a maki order of Spider Roll (40 AED), which was one of the best we’ve tasted in the city. Battered pieces of sweet soft shell crab were wrapped around sticky rice and served with a chilli dipping sauce. The accompanying California Rolls (30 AED) were refreshing and tasty, with the perfect balance of cucumber and avocado.
For our main course, we ordered two Teppanyaki’s dishes, the Corn Fed Chicken (100 AED) and Fresh Prawn (120 AED), which were both cooked to perfection. We added an order of Garlic Fried Rice (30 AED) to share. Both dishes came with a healthy mixture of wok fried cabbage and carrots, which added a much-needed sweetness to the dishes.
Icho has earned its place amongst our favourite places to dine in the city. You can expect a top class Japanese meal at a sweet price, with a stunning view of Dubai at your feet. We really recommend a visit.
