When we heard that tiny Jumeirah-based café Hummus Wa Falafel is owned by Reem Al Bawadi (an institution in itself and one of our favorite Lebanese restraurants in town) we couldn’t get there fast enough to taste what it has to offer.
Unlike their other branches, Hummus Wa Falafel has a ‘fast food’ feel – designed for pickup and delivery or to sit and have a quick bite to eat on a busy day. The menu offers a selection of local sandwiches, a typical assortment of appetizers, a few mains, and an ample choice of freshly squeezed juices.
Our two pieces of Falafel (3 AED) were served fresh from the fryer – perfectly crispy on the outside, and moist and hot inside. The cook informed us that his ‘secret’ recipe contains chickpeas, garlic, parsley and the completely unexpected cucumber – not so secret anymore! The falafel was so tasty that the pickles and tahini sauce on the side didn’t seem necessary.
The Chicken Shawarma (8 AED) was perhaps the best we’ve tasted in Dubai. Pita filled with juicy and tender pieces of chicken, pickles, pungent yet delicious garlic sauce, and the mandatory French fries – it was the perfect combination and a real treat.
Now that we’ve discovered our favorite street food in such a central location, we will be heading back for pit stops whenever we feel peckish – especially as Hummus Wa Falafel is open 24 hours a day!
