SIMPLE, TASTY, AND AFFORDABLE INDIAN CUISINE, WITH STUNNING VIEWS OVER THE MARINA

When we heard that an Indian restaurant had opened in the Marina Mall, we couldn’t get there fast enough to try it. With plenty of parking, the mall is our favourite casual dining destination in Dubai. Zafran is tucked away in the corner with indoor seating and a spacious outside terrace that boasts stunning views of the Marina.

We started our meal with the ‘Samosa and Bhajia’ appetizer (28 AED) – a generous helping of potato-filled pastry and batter-fried mixed vegetables, with an accompaniment of mint and yogurt chutney and a sour tamarind paste. It was the perfect balance of cool and spicy and we wiped our platter clean.

We ordered ‘Alu Mattar Gobi Sabzi’ (26 AED) for our second entrĂ©e – stir-fried vegetables cooked in cumin and turmeric. With just a hint of spice, it was light and filling.

For our main dish, we picked ‘Kaali Mirch Ka Murgh’ (45 AED), which directly translates to ‘chicken in black pepper sauce’. The dish delivered exactly what it promised – perfectly cooked pieces of chicken in a tomato curry sauce, with a subtle, yet distinct heat from the black pepper. For side dishes, we ordered Tandoor Roti (6 AED) and Naan bread (9 AED), which were perfect compliments to the meal.

The food itself was tasty, without being heavy on oil and spices. The staff were attentive and made sure we weren’t kept waiting too long for the piping hot bread that regularly arrived at our table. We will definitely be heading back soon to dine again – and we predict that Zafraan will become one of the popular places to eat in the Marina.
