THIS GREEK TAVERNA WILL GIVE YOU A TASTE OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

El Greco is a quintessential Greek restaurant in Dubai.

We were still absorbing the recent news about La Mer being demolished when an invitation for El Greco landed in our inbox. This surprised us because the restaurant is located in the centre of the buzzing beach destination that we thought had already closed its doors.

Upon further investigation we were told El Greco will still be there for this year and so we were delighted to head there on the weekend. Although most of the restaurants have sadly closed their doors, there are still a few spots open and the beach is still busy.

This gorgeous Greek restaurant in La Mer Central exudes serious beach vibes, and is the perfect place to while away a sunny, breezy late afternoon lunch or sunset dinner. Although it’s getting warm you can sit under the shade of an old olive tree and enjoy your meal outside. The funky interiors will make you feel like you’ve teleported to the Greek and Mediterranean isles.

Serving delicious grills, gyros and healthy power bowls, alongside some great desserts the place had a constant stream of customers. We started with a strong iced Greek frappe before we went onto order our meal.

The house mezza platter was a colorful mix of everything from grilled halloumi to feta, olives, spicy salsa sauce, grape vine leaves and of course, tzatziki. Served with a side of pita we nibbled at these refreshing dips while we enjoyed the casual and relaxed vibe.

In the mains we kept it simple and went straight for the mixed grill platter ideal for sharing. The skewers of of meat, chicken and vegetables were accompanied with juicy lamb chops and sides of pita, salad and fries. Each of the chargrilled skewers were fantastic and we took our time enjoying every element of this platter.

We ended with the signature Greek dessert, loukoumades served with honey. These piping hot golden dough balls were exactly what we needed to end this meal on a high note.

If you’re a fan of flame-grilled meats, healthy eats, chill vibes, and spending your day beachfront, El Greco is a great option for a few more months!
