FINE DINING INSPIRED BY FAMILY RECIPES AT JAMAVAR DUBAI

Jamavar is a One MICHELIN-starred Indian restaurant in Downtown Dubai.

With its regal interiors and a menu drawing on traditional family recipes, Jamavar Dubai offers a refined take on Indian home cooking in a luxurious setting. Located within Address Residences in Dubai’s Opera District, the tastefully done heritage-inspired decor and inviting atmosphere create the perfect backdrop for the impeccable service and refined dishes.

Chef Surender Mohan has curated a menu with signature favourites from the royal kitchens of the North to the coastal cooking of the South. The menu brings together the restaurant’s finest plates, bold yet balanced dishes that span India without focusing on any single state.

Inspired by India’s street food markets, the small plates are a good place to start. The Chandni Chowk Ki Aloo Tikki, served with spiced white peas, honey yoghurt, tamarind and mint chutney, is a mix of sweet, tangy and spicy flavours, and one of our favourite ways to begin the meal.

Curiosity got the better of us with the Lobster Idli Sambhar, served with black pepper-spiced lobster and aubergine sambhar. An unexpected and elevated take on a classic, but one that really works.

The final small plate, Hyderabadi Beef Haleem, with its tender slow-cooked beef and onion seed naan, was so tasty and comforting we’d happily come back just for this.

From the traditional tandoor oven, the Achari Jhinga is light but very satisfying, with smoky, chargrilled tiger prawns, pickling spices and caramelised garlic yoghurt.

For the mains, the Sindhi Methi Gosht, with tender kid goat simmered in spinach, cinnamon and fenugreek leaves, is earthy and wholesome. It’s especially good scooped up with piping hot butter naan.

The must-order Dum Gosht Biryani, with tender kid goat, fragrant basmati rice, crispy onions and fresh mint, served with raita is a meal in itself.

The generous portions (even the small plates) are all designed for sharing. It’s the next best thing to enjoying an authentic Indian meal in a family home.
