Affordable and delicious all day Indian style breakfast on Sheikh Zayed Road.
We first discovered Raju Omlet in Karama-a small café serving all day long authentic Indian breakfast. A year on and they have opened their second outpost on Sheikh Zayed Road.
The new outlet is spacious and airy with quirky styling that includes posters of Bollywood icons and graffiti with popular Hindi song lyrics plastered on the walls. The seating is casual with an eclectic mix of benches, couches and chairs scattered around the room.
Feel free to drop in any time of day and the menu remains the same-an endless variety of eggs cooked in different ways. From being wrapped in paratha or then cooked in curry-it is a take on the café culture found in Bombay.
We tried the Bhurji (15 AED) -scrambled eggs with crushed onions, green chillies, chopped tomatoes, ginger, garlic and special spices. A hearty dish that we scooped up with piping hot paratha.
The Chef’s signature dish, Chatpata Boiled Tikka (16 AED) was boiled eggs served in a spicy tangy tomato gravy that we enjoyed with a side of buttery pau buns.
The chai list is impressive-you can pick from distinctive Indian styles including kadak, cutting, adrak, elaichi and pudina. There is also hand-beaten coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice with a pinch of rock salt available.
Raju Omlet is affordable, casual and consistent. The perfect place for a quick bite to eat, it really does hit the spot if you are craving homemade authentic Indian breakfast.
