IMPECCABLE GOAN FOOD IN EXOTIC SURROUNDINGS

A Goan Restaurant in Dubai serving fresh coastal dishes.

With a plethora of flavours, textures, and colours, Indian cuisine is one of our favourite cuisines, so we’re always on the hunt for eateries in Dubai that stand out from the crowd. Our latest discovery is GOA Coastal Curries; a Goan restaurant in the Oud Metha neighbourhood that has a very unique appeal.

At first glance, the restaurant looks like a Greek restaurant, with beautifully textured whitewashed walls and bright azure blue doors. It feels like you’ve been transported to an exotic beach house.

The food is just as enticing. Spoilt for choice given the extensive menu, we asked the waiter to help us select our lunch.  Our first dish we ordered was Manglorian Sukha Chicken (22 AED); tender pieces of chicken cooked in a bright red paste of spices with mild heat. The topping of freshly grated coconut was the cherry on the cake. The dish was an absolute delight.

Our second choice was the Goan Prawn Curry (50 AED); a traditionally cooked coconut-based curry, accompanied by fresh prawns. It was extremely tasty and very filling.

We enjoyed both dishes with special rice-based breads; Appam (3 AED) and Amboli (3 AED). Lighter that a naan and gluten-free, the thick Appam was the ideal accompaniment to the curry, whilst the paper-thin Amboli worked well with the chicken.

GOA Coastal Curries is without doubt one of our favourite ethnic eateries in town.  It’s easy to find, serves large portions at affordable prices, and has décor that perfectly befits the cuisine. We will definitely be back.
