CONTEMPORARY JAPANESE RESTAURANT SUMOSAN IS NOW IN DUBAI

Sumosan has now opened its doors at the EDITION Hotel in Downtown Dubai.

Sumosan is a multi-award-winning, restaurant serving an exceptional standard of modern Japanese cuisine with locations across the world. This celebrity-loved hotspot has now finally opened its doors at the ultra-stylish Edition Hotel in Downtown Dubai. The restaurant is located on the first floor and can be accessed through the lifts or then the insta-famous spiral staircase that has been flooding our social media feed.

As the host was guiding us to our table we couldn’t help but marvel at the stunning gold palm tree that is the centerpiece of the bar. Although there are a few booths for a more intimate dining experience, we picked the tables overlooking the sleek slate sushi bar, offering us a culinary theatre as the sushi masters sliced into the freshest seafood.

The menu is an exquisitely prepared selection of a unique take on Japanese cuisine and our multi-course meal began with an eclectic mix of flavorful starters. We started with the very comforting homemade tacos with piquant Wagyu beef and lime to the crispy squid karaage with spicy yuzu sauce that really satisfied our initial cravings. It was then onto seared wagyu beef tataki with sesame crème sauce, thinly sliced yellowtail with truffle yuzu vinaigrette and fresh truffle shaving and crispy sushi rice with spicy salmon tartare. These delectable dishes were made with the finest of ingredients.

The beautifully presented sushi and sashimi platter arrived somewhere between the starter course and we took our time enjoying a perfectly fresh selection-we tried everything from chu-toro (semi fatty tuna) to unagi (fresh water eel) and hamachi (yellowtail) and finally the signature Dubai roll – salmon aburi, prawn tempura, asparagus with house dukkah.

In the mains the 24-hour miso marinated black cod was exceptionally tasty. We have had many versions of this dish around the city-but this one truly makes its mark!

If there is one dish we have a weakness for it would be the Japanese home baked milk bread Sando sandwich and since this was one of the recommended dishes, we were not going to miss out! We picked the wagyu fillet option and this came with a generous serving of fries with truffle sauce. Everything about this combination was heavenly!
