Taqueria Freedah is a charming canteen-style eatery in the heart of Jumeirah.
As huge Mexican food fans, we were keen to try out Taqueira Freedah as it has created a huge buzz since its recent opening. The name Freedah is inspired by the Arabic word for ‘unique’ and Taqueria Freedah is a love letter to both Mexico and Dubai.
We love the casual and relaxed ambiance. The interior, a tribute to Frida Kahlo, is bold and eye-catching. This uplifting aesthetic pairs perfectly with the vibrant menu and everything about this eatery is quintessentially Mexican.
Freedah’s menu has been carefully curated by taquero Jorge Rodriguez to reflect the diversity of Mexican food by combining traditional recipes with a modern approach while always using locally-sourced ingredients. You will find sharing plates here that are big on flavours and quality ingredients-they also aren’t easily found outside of Mexico.
Of course, we started with Guacamole-this family recipe passed down through generations is prepared with charred jalapeños, garlic, and onions ground in a traditional molcajete. Freshly mashed avocados are combined with lime, salt, and cilantro and served with crispy tortilla chips for a smoky, layered flavour-it really is worthy of the hype.
The feisty and refreshing Coconut Ceviche is inspired by Acapulco, this dish features fresh catch of the day paired with Thai young coconut, lime, Serrano chilli, and avocado.
We came for the homemade tacos and they didn’t disappoint! Showcasing Mexico’s regional diversity, each taco is served on freshly pressed corn tortillas. Our favourite Birria Taco made with slow-cooked brisket and short ribs is juicy and tender. The Baja-Style Prawn Taco-include lightly battered prawns topped with chipotle mayo and crisp cabbage are simply fabulous. The Chicken Pastor Taco made with pit-grilled marinated chicken has a unique smoky, tangy flavour.
We kept room for the freshly made churros served with chocolate sauce-these are quite possibly the best we have had in Dubai!
Taqueria Freedah captures the rustic charm of Mexico’s vibrant street food culture in a casual atmosphere. This authentic Mexican taqueria will surely blossom into a local treasure!
