Like everyone else, we’ve been eagerly waiting for a chance to visit Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab—Dubai’s most talked-about hotel. Boasting 11 dining concepts, there is an eclectic variety of cuisines to pick from. We were lucky to receive an invitation for The Cullinan , their gourmet steakhouse located on the 1st Floor.
Boasting stunning interiors inspired by a golden age of discovery, they borrow from the explorers, naturalists and artists to create a fascinating study of nature and wonder. South Africa serves as heritage and its astonishingly diverse natural phenomena as inspiration.
They have partnered with de Gournay, a luxury design house renowned for their beautiful, handcrafted fabrics and wallpapers. The eye-catching bespoke hand-painted wallpaper is a masterpiece on de Gournay’s deep-gold gilded paper. Designed exclusively for The Cullinan, it captures the beauty of our iconic sunsets with intricate coastal details. Inspired by the Marsa building, the artwork weaves in the flowing rhythm of waves and wind, creating a refined backdrop for an unparalleled dining experience.
With breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea, the expansive outdoor terrace sets the scene. Indoors, it’s cozy and intimate, but it’s the outdoor setting that truly steals the show.
The menu journeys from shore to sea, serving superior dishes of meat, seafood and seasonal produce. Their reputation for meat even in such a short time is second to none, with cuts curated by their very own meat sommelier.
The menu is filled with delicacies including scallop crudo, steak tartare mille-feuille and gambreo rosso tartare. The seared Hokkaido scallops with foie gras and burnt butter cream is a must-try. Another beautifully presented dish is the wood-fired prawns with tomato emulsion, semi-dried tomato pesto, basil cream, and crispy prawn crackers. The tomato and stracciatella salad is not just a visual treat but is also an explosion of fresh flavors.
The star of the show are the steaks-a curated selection of the finest premium meats, featuring tender cuts of Wagyu, Black Angus, and other exclusive breeds, all carefully sourced for their marbling, flavour, and quality. Each cut is expertly prepared to deliver an exceptional dining experience, showcasing the best in world-class meats. These steaks are accompanied by a selection of signature homemade butters melting over every steak and delectable sauces. Our indulgent order of the grass-fed fillet from New Zealand melted in the mouth. It was accompanied by a side of crispy potato pavé chips, perfectly layered and fried to golden perfection.
