Kishmish serves authentic Afghan food in a cozy setting.
We were recently invited to try out Kishmish, a brand new Afghan restaurant located inside Dar Wasl. Having crossed it a few times and the packed tables, homey feel and aroma of the freshly baked naans and grills, always had us curious.
The menu offers all the classic dishes including-dips, dumplings, rice and grilled meats. It is best to come with a group because the servings are generous and the menu is very tempting.
We started our dinner with the Barta (35 AED)-aubergine mashed with coriander, spring onion, garlic, yogurt and kourout-which we quickly wiped up with the soft, pillowy naan bread.
The hearty Mantu (55 AED) dish-delicate Afghan dumplings stuffed with lamb-was carefully presented with a topping of lentils, vegetables and yogurt.
We were eager to try the Chapli kebab (55 AED) and it exceeded our expectations-mildly spiced and perfectly cooked, we wrapped it up in the naan, drizzled it with the creamy yogurt dip and enjoyed every last bite.
Although it is hard to pick one winning dish-the straight from the charcoal mixed grill (85 AED) with lamb, chicken and kofta was tender, moist and served with their signature mint and red chilli chutneys that we absolutely relished and wish were sold in jars for us to take home!
Kishmish serves authentic, homely Afghan food that is perfectly executed, beautifully presented and an absolute treat. We can’t wait to go back and try the other dishes on the menu.
