SAVOUR A TASTE OF LA DOLCE VITA AT THE CHARMING HILTON LAKE COMO

Hilton Lake Como boasts captivating views of Lake Como and the surrounding mountains, exceptional amenities, state-of-the-art design, and near-faultless service.

Just steps away from western shore of Lake Como is the discreetly located Hilton property, a new-generation lifestyle hotel that is housed in a former silk factory. The space exudes a sense of magic, where the old-world charm of the thriving silk industry, dating back to the 16th century, is balanced with modern elements. While the front-facing façade preserves its historical character, the wraparound extension gives the space an open feel and a modern touch. Little details, like the names of the restaurants, Taffeta, Satin-and the silk-inspired spa treatments, all pay homage to the rich history of the building. We couldn’t help but obsess over the distinct sweet, fruity scent, which fills the hotel and is inspired by the location, adding to the warmth and coziness.

The staff made the usually mundane check-in process pleasant with their cordial disposition, welcome drinks, and warm towels. This level of impeccable service extends throughout the hotel—and there is always someone on hand to assist in any way that they possibly can.

The 170-room property has a selection of understated luxe rooms and suites with clean lines and neutral schemes. A true haven of tranquillity, from the contemporary design to the locally made furniture, every material is of the highest quality.

The elegant Loft Suite, in the historical silk printing factory section, is a unique duplex suite equipped with all the sumptuous, homely comforts. It features a signature glass ceiling and minimal modern interior. Spanning two levels, connected by a staircase, the ground floor consists of a spacious foyer and cozy living area with a sofa bed, workstation and wardrobe. The lavish bathroom includes a walk-in rain shower and bathtub and is equipped with all the Crabtree and Evelyn amenities we could possibly need for a comforting stay.

The top floor houses the bedroom with its magnificent glass ceilings that allow you to gaze at the stars from the uber-comfortable king Serenity bed. You can press the bedside button to close the ceiling blind and sleep peacefully, but we were too mesmerized by the breathtaking view.  Although there were two high-definition televisions, upstairs in the bedroom and downstairs in the living area, we never found the need to switch them on.

On our first night we found it hard to drag ourselves away from the panoramic views and instead opted for the ultimate treat, room service. Our mismatched order of margarita pizza and truffle fries (whose judging?) arrived quickly and absolutely hit the spot.

Breakfast is served at Satin, the chic ground floor restaurant that offers a lavish spread of nutritious, and hearty sweet and savoury treats. There is also a glorious Ă  la carte option of shakshouka, chickpea pancakes and acai bowls.

For dinner, we headed to the iconic rooftop glasshouse restaurant and lounge Terrazza 241. Offering panoramic views of the lake and beyond, the décor is chic and stylish. The menu brings together dishes from across the region and we were treated to a memorable meal of sublime seared scallops and hearty lobster pasta and decadent tiramisu. Using the finest ingredients, the dishes are artfully presented. An uber-chic restaurant, Terrazza 241 offers exquisite Italian cuisine paired with spectacular views. Is there a better combination?

An oasis of calm and wellbeing, the in-house Eforea Spa & Health Club is ideal for getting polished and pampered. With a range of impressive restorative therapies and anti-ageing beauty treatments, it offers a sensory experience that will leave you completely rejuvenated. The signature Lake Como Silk Journey, encompasses soft stretches of the body with silk fabrics made in Como, followed by a deep tissue massage. Pure bliss-this treatment balances the mind, body, and soul.

The heated infinity pool on the rooftop allows for an unobstructed view of Lake Como and the historic villas dotted across the Lombardy Alps.  Despite the chilly November evening, we braved the cold and enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi while witnessing one of the most stunning sunsets of our lives. When we wanted a cozier setting, we headed to the glass atrium on the ground floor where there was plenty of comfortable yet stylish seating, and we spent many hours just chilling.

Hilton Lake Como offers experiences both on and off the Lake. There’s no better way to start the day than bundling up and taking an early morning walk around the manicured grounds surrounding the lake to watch the stunning sunrise views. A 10-minute brisk walk from the town of Como, there is much to explore, discover, and soak in. We took advantage of the hotel bikes available for guests and cycled across the periphery of the lake and into town to see the stunning medieval Duomo and pick up a few bits from the local boutiques. Milan, the buzzy fashion capital is a short train ride away. On the lake, there are boats available to take you to the scenic towns, including Bellagio.

Roman poet Virgil called Lake Como ‘our greatest lake’, and although it has now become synonymous with glitz and glamour, its charming architecture, storied past, and world-renowned silk heritage, make it impossible to resist the magic of Como. There’s no shortage of properties to stay in the region, but at Hilton Lake Como, one can truly embrace the most authentic version of the Italian tradition of villeggiatura—where luxury, nature, and stunning lake views create the ultimate escape from the everyday.
