Morimoto Dubai offers Japanese food with global influences.
If you are into cooking shows or then food in general then you would have definitely heard of Iron Chef, Masaharu Morimoto. We are huge fans of his show, knife skills and even his award-winning cookbook ‘Mastering The Art of Japanese Home Cooking’ and were gutted to miss the opening of his latest venture, Morimoto Dubai (and the opportunity of meeting him there) in March 2018. That is why we were quick to accept the invitation to review the restaurant recently.
The restaurant is located on the 23rd and 24th floor of Renaissance Downtown Hotel, Dubai. The impressively elegant space consists of a lounge, large bar area, teppanyaki, sushi counter, three private dining rooms and four outdoor terraces, including private access terraces with undisturbed views of the Burj Khalifa. The private terraces come with their own pass code to enter that only the guest and server know!
If you have watched his show then you would already know that Chef Masaharu Morimoto has created a bridge between the culinary traditions of his native Japan and the American palate. His signature style is to serve Japanese food with a twist.
We began our multi-course meal with the spicy tuna tacos-chunky pieces of fish inside a crispy shell-that we loved. From the hot appetizers the spicy alaskan king crab was covered in a flavorful tobanjan aioli and came with a side of green mango salad that was a great accompaniment to the meaty crab.
Our beautifully presented sushi and sashimi platter arrived somewhere between the salad course and we took our time enjoying perfectly fresh selection-we tried everything from chu-toro (fatty tuna) to unagi (fresh water eel) and hamachi (yellowtail).
In the main course the delicate braised black cod was topped with a ginger-soy reduction that enhanced the taste while the side of the duck confit rice topped with a fried egg, was the perfect combination with it.
We had to end the grand meal with a bite of dessert and the s’mores-salted milk chocolate mousse topped with toasted marshmallow and sitting on a base of a dark brown sugar graham.
Our knowledgable servers, Cecilia and Mary made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. Morimoto Dubai offers an ‘Iron Chef’ quality experience and sets the tone for a memorable evening out.
