Origami restaurant offers a unique Japanese dining experience in Jumeirah
Tucked away inside a humble façade, we discovered Origami when we were invited to come experience the food. A true hidden gem located on the first floor of Souq Mall, a discreet building by Umm Suqueim, the views of the Arabian Sea are unmatched. If you really want to enjoy the serene ambience outside then there is the option of the casual benches on the terrace.
Indoors is cozy and intimate. The contemporary minimalist Japanese décor is fused with Arabic calligraphy, Islamic pattern & wall murals and even majlis-style floor seating.
The menu is also reflective of the fusion theme that the restaurant stands out for. We began with a Seaweed Salad (37 AED) that had some surprising elements including avocado and a refreshing crunch from apple slices. The Yellowtail with Jalapeno (57 AED) was delicate in texture and light in flavor. Rock Shrimp Salad with Chilli Mayo (55 AED) is a staple on most Asian menus across Dubai, and Origami’s version was fresh and tasty.
Kunafa Prawns (51 AED) caught our attention-a true blend of Arabic with Japanese, the savory dish was crunch and delightful. We weren’t sure what to expect from the Japanese Tuna Pizza but it didn’t disappoint-sashimi style fish presented on tortilla bread we adored the hint of truffle that added more depth to the dish.
The star dish was the Black Cod Skewer (81 AED)- with the caramelized sauce-the dish was probably one of our favorite ones.
We ended the lunch with Mochi, a traditional Japanese ice-cream-subtle in its sweetness, we preferred the coconut flavor the most as the cheesecake was far too creamy for our liking.
Origami is a charming restaurant that serves beautifully crafted, well-presented and delectable Japanese cuisine with a twist.
