KCAL is a Dubai-based food delivery that offers fast-food cooked in a manner that is better for your health and has much fewer calories.

When you fancy a night out of the kitchen, eating healthily can be a challenge in Dubai. Home deliveries often present a lack of healthy options, whilst heading out for dinner leaves us with post-meal heaviness and guilt. So when we heard about the eat-in and delivery options at Kcal in Jumeirah Lake Towers – advertised as ‘healthy fast food’ – we immediately picked up the phone to order lunch.

Healthy can often mean bland – but this is definitely not the case at Kcal. The Moroccan Soup (14 AED) was the perfect autumnal dish with its bright red colouring and warm scent of cumin.  The clear broth was a combination of cannelloni beans and red lentils, blended together with traditional spices.  It was light and tasty – and at just 144 calories, it is definitely a new lunchtime favourite!

The Honey Mustard Chicken (34 AED) was the perfect choice for our main – a juicy fillet of chicken with a generous helping of chopped vegetables. The sauce had a subtle, yet sharp flavour, whilst the perfectly cooked vegetables added a touch of sweetness and the sprinkled almonds gave a welcome crunch. At a mere 274 calories, the dish was surprisingly hearty and filling.

For dessert, we picked Sweet Banana Sushi (19 AED and 224 calories) – pieces of banana wrapped around rice and soya bean sheets, accompanied by a chocolate dipping sauce. The flavours worked brilliantly together – the low fat sauce was especially tasty and the crepe-like soya bean sheets were mouthwateringly moist.

Kcal is our new favourite takeaway option. The low calorie count (all dishes are under 300 calories) and the fairly wide menu means we can watch our waistline and stay healthy, without having to cook ourselves.
