ESCAPE TO THE RIVEIRA AS THE CHATEAU SAINT-MARTIN & SPA WELCOMES BACK GUESTS

Just under one month to go before the re-opening of one of France’s most gorgeous châteaus.

Château Saint-Martin & Spa, which closes for the winter months, will re-open for guests in May, and to celebrate they have a very special Early Booking Offer. Sprawled over 14-hectares, the 12th century château, perched upon a verdant hilltop in Provence,  promises a breath of fresh air to all who visit with stunning views over the breeze Mediterranean coast.

WHERE HISTORY AND NATURE MEET

First coming into existence as a Knights Templar castle in 1150, a fresh revamp has safely guarded its characterful heritage, while imbuing it with a contemporary aesthetic.

Aside from the lofty, whimsical structure, the stunning Jean Mus-designed gardens – home to happy little, bouncy bunny rabbits – lend themselves to hours of exploring. The show-stopper in is the Tiffany blue swimming pool, surrounded by Cypress trees. The estate also has more than 200 historically listed olive trees and, every year in October, they pick the olives for the chef to extract his own in-house brand of high quality oil.

BEDDING DOWN

A contemporary take on Louis XV and XVI style, no two suites here are the same. But each has breathtaking views over the calm Mediterranean and a breezy terrace designed for morning Nespressos and evening sundowners.

My light-flooded, country chic room was accented by zesty, uplifting shades of coral with furnishings courtesy of French Pierre Frey. The oversized marble bathrooms are also therapeutic chambers with sunken baths, stand-alone showers and a generous supply of Bamford botanical products.

For increased privacy the gated and guarded one-, two- or three-bedroom villas located above the main hotel grounds include perks such as a private kitchen where chefs can prepare meals to each guest’s exacting tastes.

FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD

Aside from a commendable à la carte menu with eggs cooked every which way, the slickly presented buffet section comprises freshly baked patisseries, homemade buttery brioche – to be enjoyed with lashings of the afore mentioned whipped butter – pâtés, fromage boards, herring and salmon. There are even artisanal sweet boards which make it acceptable to eat chocolate for breakfast.

For dinner, one Michelin-starred restaurant, Le Saint Martin, is where chef Jean-Luc Lefrançois transforms harvests from the bountiful Riviera into flavour-packed dishes that are trés Instagrammable.
