MY MANAMA, TRAVEL TIPS BY MARA MOSTAFA

The majority of Bahrain’s restaurants are tucked away in the heart of Manama and one of my favorites is ROMA.  Their Hamour Carpaccio starter is delicious, whilst I like the fact they offer the healthy option of wholewheat pasta for a main course, which you can’t get everywhere. With live music and a warm, cosy atmosphere, the place is a hit amongst locals and expats.

My perfect getaway is Durrat Al Bahrain. The only drawback is that you have to be a resident or a guest to visit there. The other great spot is the Al-Areen Palace & Spa (formerly known as the Banyan Tree Sakhir). They usually offer great rates in the summer and their private villas with pools are beautiful and relaxing. For the ladies, Jacques Dessange in Manama is a great place to go for a quick spa session between shopping and dinner since it’s located so centrally.

La Fontaine is a beautifully restored wind tower house that has been turned into a gallery, restaurant, and spa. This little gem is in the middle of town is a great spot to view beautiful architecture and art. Al Fateh Mosque is also a must-visit for tourists. They offers tours around the grand mosque and share fascinating details about the Islamic architecture.

Bahrain has all the shops and boutiques that most GCC countries have to offer. City Center is a great choice for the likes of SAKs, H&M, and Zara, whilst Moda Mall is the “fifth avenue” of Bahrain, with Louis Vuitton, Fendi, and Hermes, to name just a few. For a priceless experience, however, take a trip to Bab Al Bahrain Souq, where you can smell the spices and have tea with the locals.
