Guggenheim Abu Dhabi

Book your diaries for the 29th of July, 2017 to visit the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and NYUAD exhibitions.

Alserkal Programming invites you on a monthly series of road trips to visit exhibitions, talks, performances and film screenings by galleries, arts institutions, and cultural initiatives around the country.

Following the fully-booked road trip to Abu Dhabi, they have organised a second one due to the high demand. The next trip will take place on 29 July, 2017 and will include visits to two exhibitions.

1) The Creative Act: Performance• Process • Presence, at Manarat Al Saadiyat Cultural District, Abu Dhabi.

The second exhibition of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Collection brings together artists of different nationalities and generations who have emphasised performance, process, and human presence in their practice, offering a transcultural perspective on these defining aspects of contemporary art. The Creative Act: Performance• Process• Presence follows the 2014 exhibition Seeing Through Light: Selections from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Collection, which welcomed more than 90,000 visitors and presented artworks from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi collection for the first time.

2) But We Cannot See Them: Tracing a UAE Art Community, 1988-2008 at NYUAD Art Gallery

But We Cannot See Them focuses on one community of artists, sometimes called “the five”, at an intersection of visual artists, writers, and filmmakers based in the UAE. Its members identified with a “new culture” of encouraging radical, formal and conceptual experimentation.
Artists include: Hassan Sharif, Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim, Abdullah Al Saadi, Mohammed Kazem, Hussain Sharif, Vivek Vilasini, Jos Clevers, and Ebtisam Abdulaziz.
