VERTICAL FLEX: IT’S FUN BUT EXPECT SOME BRUISES !

Cello“A disclaimer form?”, I exclaimed. “Yes, dancing around poles can be fun, but expect some bruises if it’s your first time”. Really? It’s been 42 hours since I attempted Cello’s Vertical Flex classes and I still haven’t spotted any bruises. However, my arms and tummy do feel stretched out as warned.

According to the instructor, those aches are a good sign as it means you have used the correct muscle groups.

Wearing comfortable gym leggings, we warmed up to some up-tempo beats and started practicing some basic pole moves. The beginner’s class feels more like advanced, but half-way through, it started to become easier. “It’s a mental thing”, I heard the instructor say, almost reading my mind. “As long as you think you can do it, you will unblock any physical barriers. Now pull yourself up, lift those legs and no jumping!”

Offering Ballet, Hip-Hop, and Bellydance classes, Cello Dubai has branches all over the UAE. Vertical Flex is held twice a week at their JBR branch in Al Fattan Towers.
