If so, we’ve found the perfect place to indulge your passion – Vindemia Gallery, tucked away in Jumeirah Beach Residence, which caught our attention when we strolled past the window and spotted a traditional wooden rocking chair displayed next to a retro jukebox.
If you’re looking for furniture, there is plenty to tempt you – from a French ‘Voltaire’ armchair, to an English Gentleman’s leather chair, to grandfather clocks and mahogany desks from all around the world. Items on offer date back to a hundred years and more, so you’ll be taking a little piece of history home with you.
Our favorite section, however, is the musical instruments. If money is no object, prepare to be tempted by the grand Steinway Grand Concert Piano once owned by the Prince of Wales, or the Art Deco Hupfield Symphony Jazz Orchestrion. Those with lower budgets should head straight to the nostalgic Paillard Gramophone (4500 AED), which is in perfect working condition. We were given a demonstration and have been dreaming of bringing it home ever since.
It’s easy to while away the hours browsing at Vindemia Gallery and you are unlikely to leave empty handed – even if your shopping bag contains just a classic gold plated bookmark or ethnic Ottoman silver coin ring. The friendly staff are happy to guide customers and demonstrate musical items, which gives the store a very relaxed ambience.
In a city that is synonymous with new and glittery, this place definitely stands out – and we’ll be heading back very soon.
