Rare, the UAE’s first gourmet food truck is located under the Al Safa bridge.
Although food trucks are now a popular concept in Dubai, Rare is the first gourmet edition! Located under the Al Safa bridge, the charcoal-colored truck overlooks the Dubai Skyline. Serving Japanese and Latin-inspired dishes, this carefully curated menu is anything but simple fare consisting of small bites and easy-to-serve food. Instead the ingredients and recipes rival the best brick-and-mortar restaurants across the city.
Once we drove up to the truck, our server was quick to come over and introduce us to the food and the concept. He took his time to explain each dish and also make recommendations. There is a custom-built robata grill which is at the heart of the truck and they serve premium quality meat and seafood sourced from Japan and Australia that is all grilled on it. But that is not all-the menu also features an array of Buddha Bowls and Qbano sandwiches.
The Wagyu Beef Tsukune made using the traditional Japanese kushiyaki is a delicious combination of beef, tare sauce, shisho, scallions and chili). Another great pick from this section is the Wagyu Maki that combines truffle, pepperoni, cheddar and tartar sauce.
The unique Chocolate Wagyu fillet is special because the cows are fed a combination of chocolate and cream-flavored gummy bears during the last four months of their lives, which gives a distinct profile to the meat. It is served with pickled bok choi & onions, togarashi, garlic sauce. The Salmon Teriyaki is delicate and flavorful with a perfect balance of flavors.
The seared Tuna Tartare is also elevated with yuzu and gochujang sauce . The Buddha Bowl with grilled tofu is a hearty and tasty meal on its own. If you want something non-fussy that still delivers robust flavors then the Korea meets Cuba Qbano accompanied with lemon-togarashi fries is your best bet.
We ended the feast with a light and creamy Crème Brûlée Crepe Cone that we can’t stop thinking about.
