Alici is tucked away underneath the shadow of Ain Dubai in the Bluewaters neighbouhood. This Southern Italian eatery is spread over two floors and has a beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the sea and Dubai skyline. The giant lemon and orange trees at the entrance reflect the charm of the entire interior of the space both inside and outside. There is attention to detail with a distinct chic Italian seaside themed setting.
Alici – Italian for “anchovies”, serves the finest fish and seafood with an Italian twist. Once comfortably seated you begin with freshly baked homemade bread that is very hard to resist. The menu suggests we start with items from the Crudo Bar. Our first dish, Gambero Rosso-red Mazara prawns with blood orange segments and radish is seriously good.
If you know us well, then you would also know that we will never miss an octopus dish. At Alici, they serve grilled octopus with beluga lentil, saffron and romanesco pepper sauce. The different textures and flavors compliment the perfectly grilled octopus and make it unique.
Of course, Fritto misto is one of those moreish indulgences that can be difficult to say no to. We thoroughly enjoyed this crispy mix of fried calamari, fried mazara prawns, slice purple potato and zucchini dipped in a sweet chili jam and a citrus mayo.
We can’t come to an Italian restaurant and leave without ordering a pasta. Our waiter suggested the ravioli filled with cod fish and burrata and topped with an aromatic tomato sauce. This dish truly hit the spot!
Our other main was seared hand dived scallops served with roasted cauliflower, crispy beef bacon and mushrooms. It was simple and delicately flavored and the star of the dish, the scallops stood out.
We ended this satisfying meal with a rich and absolutely delicious plate of cannoli dessert, generously filled with ricotta, zesty orange and fresh pistachio, it gave us an afternoon sugar rush we really needed!
Everything about Alici is exemplary-from the beautifully designed space, efficient service and of course, the fresh and innovative dishes. It is a restaurant that we know we will be returning to again very soon.
