ENJOY AUTHENTIC INDONESIAN FLAVOURS AT THIS NO-FRILLS RESTAURANT

When Indonesian friends in Dubai recommended the food at Betawi Café, we knew it had to be good – so we decided to head to the Indonesian eatery to taste it out for ourselves.

Based in Karama, the restaurant has a basic set-up and no-frills interior. However, it is impeccably clean and despite there only being one waitress serving throughout a busy lunch hour, the service was impressively quick.

With a little help from the waitress, we settled for the recommended house dishes. The first was Soto Betawi (25 AED) – beef and vegetables cooked in a coconut milk broth, with a side of steaming white rice.  For our second, we picked Gado-Gado (25 AED) – tofu and mixed vegetables, served with peanut sauce and rice cake. Both dishes were tasty and flavoursome, and we wiped our plates clean.

Your surroundings might not rival the plush five-star restaurants on the other side of town, but if want to try a simple meal with authentic Indonesian flavours, we highly recommend a visit. The local clientele are evidence enough that the food is spot on.
