The Liwa Date Festival 2015 will be displaying the finest dates from across the country along with other cultural activities.
Looking for something to do in the next couple of days? We recommend piling up into the car and driving over to Liwa City, Al Gharbia for the 11th annual edition of the Liwa Date Festival 2015. Hosted in the middle of the desert (don’t worry it is all inside an air-conditioned tent) you will find the best UAE dates and other fruits including mangoes and lemons, along with some wonderful cultural activities.
Farms from across the country come together each other to compete for 220 prizes that amount to a total of 6 million dirhams. With an expected 70,000 visitors, this event is one of the highlights of the year. Dates are an integral part of the UAE’s history and heritage and the festival is a wonderful way to celebrate, understand and educate yourself of their cultural importance.
The programs will include a date beauty contest, a date auction, and educational sessions on how to care for palm trees. Children can participate in cultural competitions and workshops to draw, paint and educate the children about the benefits of this blessed tree.
