A cup of hot water with fresh lemon juice is an ideal alternative to your morning coffee or tea that nutritionists swear by, and it’s not just because of its tangy flavor.

There are many health benefits of lemons that have been known for centuries but the two biggest are their strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers and their use in the help of weight loss, as lemon juice is a digestive aid and liver cleanser. Lemons also contain a range of vitamins and minerals such as citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene, which promote immunity and fight infection.

When we wake up in the morning, our bodily tissues are dehydrated and are in need of water to push out toxins and rejuvenate the cells. In other words, this homemade lemonade helps eliminate internal toxins, regulating proper kidney and digestive tract functions by forcing them to work as smoothly as possible.

To get the most out of your lemon water, you should always use purified water and it should be warm, not boiling. Avoid using cold water because your body takes longer to process it and uses more energy to do so. Always use fresh, and if possible, organic lemons – never bottled lemon juice. Squeeze 1/2 of a lemon into your glass of warm water and drink first thing in the morning, ideally 15 – 30 minutes before breakfast.
