Katsuya by Starck offers Japanese Cuisine with an American palate and an International Appeal.
We recently visited Katsuya by Starck, a restaurant that features the dynamic pairing of Master Chef Katsuya Uechi and design impresario Philippe Starck. Originating from L.A, the restaurant offers delectable Robata grills, unique rolls and spectacular sushi and sashimi platters.
Chef Uechi skillfully translates Japanese flavors for the American palate. We tried some of their most popular signature dishes including the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna (59 AED), which is an absolute must-have. Although it may not sound appealing but the crispy Brussel sprouts (49 AED) are tasty to convert even those averse to the humble vegetable. The soft-shell crab (79 AED) was covered in a tempura batter and we were quick to dip it into the ponzu sauce and finish it off.
In the mains the Miso-marinated Black Cod (199 AED) was delicate and subtle in flavor, while the Wagyu Filet with Foie Gras (289 AED) was rich and indulgent. But it was the braised short-rib (115 AED) served in a sizzling rice hotpot and topped with an egg and extra chilli that totally won us over.
Located in the spectacular Jumeirah Al Naseem Hotel, the restaurant offers stunning sea views of Dubai’s iconic landmark, the Burj Al Arab. The interiors of the restaurant are sophisticated yet comfortable, featuring a large, family-style dining area. Overall, it is offers a trendy, and inviting atmosphere.
Overall Katsuya by Starck is truly a feast for the senses.
