The Courthouse Hotel captures Shoreditch’s vibrant culture.
Located in trendy Shoreditch, The Courthouse Hotel is in an Edwardian Baroque style building that once housed the Old Street Magistrates Court and Police Station, hence the name. The historic building has seen its fair share of drama-from hosting the infamous mobster Kray Twins, who stood trial for ‘demanding money through menaces,’ to holding George Orwell, author of ‘1984’ and Animal Farm.
The Courthouse Hotel is around the corner from so many trendy shops and restaurants, and that same artistic, on-trend vibe continues inside. The building itself is beautiful and keeps its original historic facade, with interiors that combine restored details and contemporary style. You’ll find a charming blend of old and new with stained glass, a sweeping staircase, and art by local creatives-just a few of its standout features. Its understated yet confidently stylish throughout-truly exceptional design!
The hotel makes great use of its history-especially in the bar and restaurant. Housed in the old courtrooms, the spaces still carry original features like wood-panelled walls, high ceilings, and even the judge’s bench. The restaurant, Judge & Jury, serves modern British dishes in a setting that’s full of character without trying too hard. Downstairs, the Jailhouse Bar makes great use of the former holding cells, now cleverly reimagined into private seating areas. It’s moody, atmospheric, and ideal for a quiet catchup with friends.
Spacious and uniquely designed the 86 rooms and 42 suites are spacious and uniquely designed-ideal for a laid-back luxury retreat. Our Hoxton Suite was thoughtfully designed and inviting, with plush bedding, premium linens, and premium amenities, including a rain shower and bathtub. The separate lounge with its own tv and desk gives the space a cozy but functional feel-ideal for unwinding or then doing a bit of work.
The spa at The Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch is the perfect spot to switch off. There’s a heated indoor pool that’s big enough for a proper swim (or then just a lazy float), plus a bubbling jet area that felt like our own private jacuzzi. The sauna and steam room are great for sweating it all out, and as we were feeling fancy, we booked a hot stone massage and Japanese Head Spa and got properly pampered. This peaceful retreat is calm, soothing, with a hint of luxury-we totally lost track of time here.
Tucked away downstairs is another fun little surprise, a two-lane bowling alley. With the energy of a stylish boutique lounge rather than a noisy arcade, it was the perfect spot to unwind with friends without having to step outside.
Our favourite discovery was the rooftop-a hidden gem set high above the buzzing energy of Shoreditch. It offers fantastic skyline views and a laid-back, welcoming vibe. The sunset is especially stunning, and the warm hospitality made it our go-to spot we didn’t want to leave.
Another unique feature is the sleek and intimate private cinema featuring comfortable seating and high-quality sound and visuals. Booking was simple-we reached out to the hotel’s concierge to reserve the space for our preferred time. It was an unexpectedly memorable experience.
The Courthouse Hotel perfectly captures the eclectic and creative spirit of Shoreditch- and even though we came for the artistic neighbourhood, it kept us busy in the best way possible.
