Special Ostadi is one of the oldest restaurants in Dubai serving authentic Iranian food.
Good food is easy to find in Dubai, but to discover an eatery that dates back to when the city was still young is not very common. So of course, when we repeatedly heard about Ostadi, founded in 1978, located in the old quarters, near the Creek (where it all began), we were curious to check it out.
A family joint, started when the current owner
sailed to Dubai from Iran with his father, the place is oozing in history. Articles that date back to the early days of Dubai along with photos and other memorabilia including currency notes cover the walls and tables.
The menu consists of all types of different kebabs. We tried the Special Chicken Kebas-seasoned and grilled to perfection the meat melted in our mouths. Perfect with the thin bread and side of yogurt, we cleaned the plate up!
The potato curry was full of flavor and came with a thick sauce that we drowned in the serving of fluffy saffron rice and quickly gobbled down also.
It is not just the food and history that draws people in, it is the personalized service and the friendly atmosphere that also adds to the ambience. The owner walks around the tables making sure the guests are taken care of and cracks a few jokes to keep it relaxed.
Special Ostadi is legendary and with a loyal clientele that consists of people from all walks of life, it really is a hidden gem.
