Cheesy French songs from the 80’s and 90’s may not be your first choice of soundtrack on a night out – but for the 100,000 Francophiles in Dubai, there are few better places to head on a Tuesday night than I2 Lounge. And the nights are never empty…
The Metropolitan Hotel’s nightclub is cosy and low key, with stylish white leather chairs and sofas to lounge on between stints on the dance floor. The clientele is mainly in their thirties, from Lebanon, Morroco, Tunisia and France.
Prepare for some serious cheese – as when the DJ puts on hits from Julio Inglesias in his heyday or former French singer Patrick Bruel (accompanied by their corny music videos on vast flat screens), the crowd does not run off.
It may seem tacky – but it’s not. The place is lighthearted and good spirited, with clientele looking for a slice of their home culture. It’s also very unique – we had no idea such a place existed until we strapped on our dancing shoes and joined them for a fun night out.
