Reform Social and Grill is the quintessential British restaurant located in The Lakes community area in Dubai.
The English spread their colonies accross the world and what remains today is a legacy of 53 Commonwealth members that were once ruled by the British Empire…well today, a small piece of Britain has now invaded The Lakes.
Yes, that’s right, the quiet suburbia in the heart of Dubai has a recreation centre where most its square footage has been reclaimed and revamped into the quintessential gastro pub-oh and did we mention it’s licensed?
The indoor ambience and décor transports you back to a richly decorated exclusive gentleman’s club from the mid-19th century, with a dark exterior and plenty of leather and marble. Outside the atmosphere changes rather dramatically as the perfectly manicured garden with a bbq pit cheekily overlooks the club pool (a popular hangout on the weekend for families) and the back gardens of the pristine template homes.
The menu too is typically British: Duck Scotch Eggs with Black Pudding and Pork Belly Pressing with Apple Chutney may make you squeal in delight…or horror.  Although we were tempted to order the Fish and Chips the price made us change our mind. The Spring Chicken and Miniature Beef Burgers are a safer option for those with a less British palette.
We may get squeamish with the mains but the English dessert gets us wobbly on the knees-The Sticky Toffee Pudding with Clotted Cream and Rice Pudding with Caramelized Mango could be reason enough to drive there.
Social Reform is the home away from home for all the British expats in town. With a range of drinks including Pimms this could well become that cozy village pub you so desperately miss.
