TAKE YOUR TASTE BUDS ON A JOURNEY TO PORTUGAL

A Portuguese restaurant in Dubai that is worth the drive.

The choice of restaurants in Dubai is endless, but very few offer traditional Portuguese food (unless you want a simple peri-peri chicken, that is…) Eager for a change of scenery and to try something a little different, we have been keeping a close eye on the opening dates for new restaurant Picante.

The Bank Street eatery is now open, with warm, rustic and very inviting scenery transporting you straight to Lisbon. The restaurant shares its outside area with a pool and sundeck with sunbathing hotel guests – this is a bit odd, but we came for the food, so we let it slide.

Our favourite from the dishes we ordered was the signature Ameijao a Balhao Pato; a traditional Portuguese dish that is best described as clams sautéed in olive oil, garlic, and coriander. It was simple, but delicious.

Bacalhau a Lagareiro is also a must try; a fish dish made with cod, onions, olive oil, and garlic, and served over a bed of baby roast potatoes. It is one of the pricier items on the menu, but a delicious mix of flavours that we enjoyed thoroughly.

We saved room for the famous dessert Pasteis de Nata (almost impossible to find in Dubai); traditional egg custard in puff pastry and a dusting of cinnamon.

We recommend a visit to this inviting and unpretentious eatery, with simple dishes that take your taste buds on a journey to Portugal.
