Louvre Abu Dhabi Stories

Louvre Abu Dhabi’s latest acquisitions this summer at Manarat Al Saadiyat

We all are impatient to visit the Louvre in Abu Dhabi once it opens.  So, it’s with great pleasure we discovered that ahead of the grand opening Louvre Abu Dhabi will showcase some of their 2014 acquisitions at Manarat Al Saadiyat this summer.

The showcase of the new acquisitions will be divided into two displays Louvre Abu Dhabi stories.

Al-Qalam: 21st June-25th July 2015

Al-Qalam (which means the pencil in Arabic) will explore the art of the written world. This exhibition will feature a wide selection of textual artworks including a Qur’an bifolia, a manuscript and also miniatures.

Immortal Figures: 28th July- 30th August 2015

This second exhibition focusing on sculptures across the globe will include the showcase of a wooden carving Uli statue from New Ireland, a Nepalese gilt copper figure of Maitreya, and an Italian bust of Saint Peter Martyr.
Both exhibitions will include ‘Portrait of Fayum’, a fine example of an Egyptian funerary painting that would traditionally have been place on the face of a mummified body.

Entry is complimentary.
