WHERE TO GET A TRUE TASTE OF SAUDI CUISINE IN DUBAI

Foul and Tamees is a Saudi cafe located in the heart of Al Wasl.

Foul and Tamees brings quintessential Saudi flavours to Dubai. Tucked away in Al Wasl, it has a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. The walls are adorned with regional artefacts and the seating is comfortable. Overall the space is well-lit and is ideal for catchup with friends or then even for a solo meal when on-the-go.

The all-day menu runs from breakfast through to dinner, and includes plenty of regional specialities including delicious desserts and fragrant coffee.

We started with Foul Jarra, a fragrant stew of cooked beans with olive oil, cumin, parsley, garlic, onion, and lemon juice-this wholesome dish was perfect with the piping hot bread. This is a must-try dish that is both healthy and delicious.

Always happy to order eggs we picked their Signature Shakshouka and it didn’t disappoint. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the spiced tomato, red onion and garlic mugalgal was robust and exploding with flavour.

We were keen to finally taste the famed Mutabbaq-a traditonal, folded dough, grilled Saudi-style in a special pan-oven. With a variety of fillings we picked the savoury zaatar and labneh filling. This is a crowd-pleaser-a quick and satisfying snack dish that we are seriously craving.

Our final dish was Tamees-this is one of the most famous breads in Saudi Arabia, baked in Tannour oven with savoury toppings. We picked feta cheese, olives, onion and cherry tomato with a garnish of fresh mint. Another wholesome dish that can be ordered on its own-we were very quick to polish it off.

The food was served with the restaurant’s special green chilli sauce that we adored–a piquant, savoury delight that elevates each dish even further.
