Bringing together a taste of the East and the rhythm of the West, Mimi Kakushi is one of our favorite restaurants in Dubai. We have been regulars for dinner, but now the restaurant also offers a Friday lunch service starting at 12pm. Located in the buzzing Restaurant Village at the Four Seasons Resort, this Japanese restaurant offers an Oriental Nouveau at its very best.
Mimi Kakushi (耳隠し) translates directly as “covering ears”. It was the name given to one of the Western hairstyles introduced in 1922, as the new yo-hatsu. This modern ‘bob’ popular among the fashionable young Moga (Modern Girls) marked a turning point in hair fashion as it was the first popular hairstyle with asymmetry.
The sophisticated decor is classic without being too fussy. The space is beautifully curated with dark furniture, antiquated mirrors and plenty of foliage. It transports you right back to Osaka during the swinging 1920s jazz age.
Serving signature dishes with a twist, the menu is filled with exciting Japanese favourites including, gyoza, sushi, black cod and wagyu beef, along with a contemporary list of drinks and cocktails to match its just as pleasing contemporary art.
It is best to come with a small group as it’s a sharing menu and you really must try as many dishes as possible. We started with a mix of hot and cold sharing plates of yellowtail sashimi, spicy tuna sushi and rock shrimp tempura. It was followed by delicately wrapped wagyu and foie gras gyoza with pickled cucumber and truffle soy butter. Another standout for us was the baked bone marrow with beef tartare, pickled onion and fried buns. Each of these spectacular dishes had a surprising element.
In the next course of the larger dishes, we picked the popular grilled seabass with spicy honey & tamarind glaze, spicy wasabi and tomato relish. It went well with the donabe rice pot of Kagoshima wagyu beef, sweet shallot, crispy onion, tamago & wagyu dashi.
After a wonderful dining experience, all we can really say is that Mimi Kakushi is a fabulous new spot that we absolutely love!
