Learn the traditional art of food fermentation at Tabchilli.

We first stumbled upon Tabchilli on Instagram and after that we found ourselves scrolling their feed for hours. Run by Maher who has a passion for all things fermenting, the workshop is located in Dar Wasl. The smell of the chilies will lure you into this cave like space. One entire wall is dedicated to jars filled with food that is fermenting and the other side is their retail space that has a selection of the most delicious homemade chili sauces.

Fermentation is a traditional food art that used to be a staple in every home. It produces nutrient-dense foods, such as kimchi and sauerkraut, and these are not only tasty but also very nutritious and good for your gut.

Tabchilli offers weekly workshops where you can learn how to ferment in this hands-on class. The two-hour sessions always start with an introduction to fermented foods and why they are such an important part of our everyday diet. This is followed by a briefing on a quick guide to safely making tasty, nutritious ferments in your own kitchen. Finally, the fun part begins and you dive right into making kimchi, sauerkraut or chili sauce.

You will leave with jars what you have made yourself and, of course the confidence to experiment in you own kitchens!
