KHADAK: AN ODE TO INDIAN CANTEENS AND A LOVE LETTER TO THEIR RICH HERITAGE

Khadak is an all-day Indian restaurant in the heart of Al Wasl.

Khadak, one of the most-anticipated restaurants in Dubai, is now open.  Founded by renowned Chef Naved Nasir, known for leading Dishoom, the beloved London eatery, Khadak is an ode to the iconic food shops of India and a celebration of the country’s rich culinary heritage. Soon to become the go-to place for anyone who is craving Indian food, it offers a culinary experience that revives forgotten recipes and dying traditions, providing a nostalgic yet refined experience for the modern palate.

Nestled inside a charming Villa on Al Wasl Road, the interiors are a blend of tradition and modernity. Hand-painted murals by Indian artists flown in specifically for the project adorn the walls, bringing India’s storytelling traditions to life. The outdoor murals, with their faded, ghost-signage style, transform the space into a visual narrative that complements Khadak’s mission of celebrating India’s cultural heritage.

The thoughtfully crafted menu boasts signature dishes such as the Khadak Raan, a grand showstopper of slow-cooked goat leg braised in the chef’s special spice mix, the Bheja Akuri, a rich scramble of lamb brain and eggs on crispy baguettes, the N.M. Chicken Shammi, paying homage to the legendary Noor Mohammadi at Bhendi Bazaar. Another not-to-be-missed is the Shabrati Nihari, a slow-cooked pulled mutton dish infused with warm spices. Traditionally a breakfast favourite at Delhi’s Chitli Qabar bazaar, this succulent dish can be enjoyed any time of the day.

Vegetarian highlights include the Morel Cheese Kulcha with Truffle Butter, as well as the classic and comforting Khadak Daal. For dessert, traditional sweet treats have been given a modern twist. The Chillia Bread & Butter Pudding offers a sweet and spiced indulgence inspired by the Konkani Chillia community. Khadak has also brought the Dubai-favourite, Pastry Chef and Dessert Consultant Nadia Parekh on board and you can pick from her selection of desserts that are always a huge hit!

Khadak also offers an array of non-alcoholic beverages that are curated in collaboration with mixologist Carl Brown. Each mocktail draws inspiration from the unique personalities of the “People of Khadak,” offering refreshing drinks that reflect the character and stories of the communities Khadak represents.

Bringing together food, culture, and art in one space, Khadak offers a nostalgic culinary journey through the iconic food streets of India.
