A TOUCH OF TRADITION WITH A MODERN TWIST: INDIAN IFTAR IN DUBAI

Rang Mahal offers a set menu for Ramadan that is a touch of tradition with contemporary flair.

As fans of Indian cuisine, we had been on the lookout for an Indian Iftar in Dubai.  So, of course when an invitation from Rang Mahal by Michelin starred chef Atul Kochhar came in we were quick to accept.  Bringing in the taste of New India the sumptuous Iftar has a total of 11 dishes celebrating the heritage of Indian cuisine infused with a modern twist.

Once the call to prayer is heard the food begins to flow to the table.  We began with a hearty lamb shorba soup-simple in its flavours it is the ideal way to break the fast.  Next came the appetizer platter with shrimp in a creamy saffron marinade, chicken tikka in aromatic spices and the star of the night, the leg of lamb cooked in spices and finished in the over-tender meat that melted in the mouth, it was simply divine.

In the mains we were served a stewed chicken in yogurt, okra in a homemade spice mix, sour red lentils with green mango, lamb shank stewed in onions and an aromatic rice and chicken biryani.  Each dish was exploding with flavour and we couldn’t help but scoop it all up with the piping hot bread that kept coming our way.

Dessert was a simple yet just as tasty affair-fresh fruit accompanied by a traditional bread and butter pudding.  Overall, the entire experience was perfect in every way.  A welcome change from the typical flavours we are used to, Atul Kocchar perfectly fuses a touch of tradition with contemporary flair and offers a memorable Indian Iftar in Dubai.
