As much as we enjoy the atmosphere of iftar tents, the long lines at the buffet tables and repetitive food can get a little boring. So in hunt of something a little different, we made our way to Le Meridian to try the hotel’s newly opened Indian Restaurant Mahec.
Once seated, we took a moment to admire our elegant and classic surroundings. We opened our fast with the starter platter; a generous helping of samosas, hammour, chicken tikka and kebabs. Each piece was grilled to perfection and we wiped the plate clean. The hammour was definitely a favorite – perfectly moist and soft from the inside, with a crispy golden batter surrounding it.
The main course consisted of a range of signature Indian dishes, including prawn curry, murgh korma, haleem, tikka masala, lamb biryani, and daal makhani. Each had a distinct flavor and just the right amount of heat. The lamb biryani was delicious, with the meat tender and fluffy rice cooked with simple flavors. The shrimp curry had a lovely deep color and flavour of Goan spices. The Haleem was the perfect texture and consistency and was beautifully tempered with onions and coriander.
Dessert was served in a contemporary platter, with our top picks including pistachio kulfi that had just the right amount of sweet and the king of desserts; ‘Shahi Tukra.’ This Indian version of bread and butter pudding is made with rose syrup, dry fruits and cardamom and sprinkled with a gold dusting – just the right way to end the perfect meal.
A trip to Mahec was a calm, peaceful and fulfilling way to open the fast – and we will definitely be heading back for more.
