JUMEIRAH’S THAI CANTEEN

Shang Thai offers a wide variety of thai food in the heart of Jumeirah on Sheikh Zayed Road.

It wasn’t long after we spotted Shang Thai on the Sheikh Zayed Road that we found ourselves walking through its doors. Serving solely Thai cuisine, the menu is extensive, with a selection of soups, salads, starters and mains.  The complimentary crackers were a great start, whetting our appetite as we selected our mains.

The first was Gai Phad Med Ma-Muang (38 AED); wok-fried chicken with cashew nuts. Perfectly seasoned and extremely tasty, we cleared our plates. The second dish was Pla Yang (46 AED); grilled fillet of fish, marinated with lemongrass and served wrapped in banana leaves. It was light and refreshing, with a subtle hint of lemongrass.

We were interested to hear that the Thai chefs in the kitchen were all female – not a common trend for Dubai, but one that clearly works well as the food was good. Furthermore, Shang Thai is conveniently located and has a great atmosphere.

We will definitely be heading back at weekends with friends, family, and the kids.
