Folly is an iconic dining destination located in Dubai’s favourite tourist destination, Madinat Jumeirah. Tucked away discreetly over two floors, the entrance and the wooden staircase will lead you to the open kitchen and main dining area. There are multiple terraces spread over two floors that provide a direct view of the Burj Al Arab.
Inside there is an eight-seater bar directly overlooks the open kitchen, allowing diners to watch and chat to the chefs as they work, while enjoying a unique and utterly energetic and theatrical service. The wood and brick décor has a rustic vibe and timeless feel.
The food at Folly is driven by experience and creativity, with a strong focus on flavour and a commitment to sourcing high-quality produce. The menu has an eclectic mix of contemporary, ingredient-led dishes. The view on the terrace is fabulous and as we soaked in our surroundings and the finally the outdoor weather, we left it up to the chef to plan our meal.
The freshly baked bread served with a stellar olive oil and rich knob of butter kept us busy till the dishes started arriving. For the first dish from formal course we began with a sweet and delicately flavored Devon crab served with radishes, cucumber, and salmon roe. Once on the table it was drizzled with kaffir lime that added an extra edge to an already fantastic dish.
The ballotine of rabbit served with the in-season girolles mushroom, raisins and sage was a simple dish done perfectly. If you have never tried rabbit before, this is the place to give it a chance as you won’t be disappointed!
In the mains we tried the glorious duck that included tender breast and crispy leg meat and was accompanied with a citrus duck sauce. A simple dish done perfectly, we will be happy to order it again.
The lamb dish was tender and perfectly cooked. It included the precious loin and confit lamb belly with aubergine, labneh, cashew nut and rosemary. It was juicy, fragrant and a creamy all in one bite!
We ended the glorious meal with a dark chocolate dessert filled with cherry, straciatella.
The only way a restaurant can get away with a tongue in cheek name is when the results are so good.
