Emirati fine-dining that offers a unique blend of regional flavours with a distinct contemporary twist.
We were invited to Siraj, a restaurant offering a gastronomic fusion of Emirati and Levantine flavours located in Souk Al Bahar.
The plush setting that combines rich Arabic-inspired décor immediately caught our attention when we walked in. The elegant ambience of ‘old meets new’ offers an interesting mix between traditional and contemporary where each element takes you back in time, while implementing a modern touch. The seven arches in the restaurant represent the seven Emirates, and the golden horses signify the unbreakable elements of Emirati culture. The walls are adorned with Arabic calligraphy and poems by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. There is a central dome that is covered with glass and signifies a protective shield that preserves Arabic heritage, wherein the yellow stone represents Levantine culture, and the sand stone represents Emirati culture. There is an outdoor terrace overlooking the Dubai Fountains and the Burj Khalifa.
The menu also mixes old with new and offers traditional dishes. We began with a Warm Date and Kale Salad (44 AED)-a unique combination that worked perfectly together and came topped with a flavourful olive oil dressing.
The chicken mousakhan rolls (39 AED) were warm and delicious and the chicken was tender and tasty and the bread was homemade and warm.
In the main dishes we went for the grilled veal chops (199 AED)-a simple dish with the veal perfectly seasoned and served with baby potatoes and herb sauce.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Siraj is the ideal place to bring out of town guests that want to experience authentic regional flavours.
