ROOBARU SERVES MODERN INDIAN FOOD THAT FEEDS THE SOUL

Roobaru is a homegrown concept nestled in the heart of Burj Khalifa Boulevard.

There is no shortage of Indian restaurants in Dubai and quite frankly we all have our firm favorites. So, when we heard the buzz around Roobaru, we were curious to see what the hype was all about. Tucked away in Downtown Dubai, the casual dining space is light and airy. From the moment we opened the door, we loved the relaxed ambience. Right by the door is the Chai Corner that serves up delicious tea and traditional Indian drinks with a twist. Consisting of one large dining hall with an open kitchen, the space has a fresh and modern style with its mustard, peach and indigo blue color scheme.

We were there right in time for Iftar, so there was an exciting buzz in the air, with diners waiting to open their fast and the kitchen working at full speed ahead to make sure the food was served on time. The set menu is divided into small and large plates along with side dishes and dessert and guests must pick one of each.

We started with Aslam’s Chicken-tender pieces of perfectly cooked chicken tikka that was marinated in a buttery kebab sauce and served on top of a small naan. The flavors were familiar yet different and we simply adored the dish.

The Chef’s Haleem sounded so good that we just had to try it. This homemade lentil dish made with braised spice muttons and topped with sliced ginger and fresh onions. It really hit the spot and we quite literally wiped the bowl clean!

The butter chicken sauce was exceptional-made in a sweet and spicy tomato gravy with a touch of cream, it wasn’t too heavy either.

The side of their signature daal makhani had a distinct smokey flavor because it was cooked on coal and we loved combining it with the butter chicken.

The star dish was of course, the lamb shank biryani. An absolute winner, the rice was fluffy with just the right amount of spices that didn’t overpower the meat which literally fell off the bone and melted in our mouths.

We ended the meal with the gulab jamun-sweet balls of tough drizzled with sugar syrup and pistachios, it was the perfect end to an absolutely delightful meal.

Roobaru offers a fresh take on quintessential Indian dishes and they really do an outstanding job of it!
