FRIDAY FUN

Friday is synonymous with brunch in Dubai, but quite frankly we aren’t always in the mood to dress up and party all afternoon.  For those lazy weekends when we prefer to indulge in good food and simply hang out by the pool we have just the spot in mind.

Our place to go is Melia Hotel where downstairs they offer everything from sushi to moussaka.  Personally we are very partial towards the food station from their Indian restaurant that is owned by the celebrity chef, Sanjeev Kapoor.

The live kitchen serves freshly made crispy parathas with eggs, delicious hot buns (pao) served with a choice of chicken or meat mince and topped with chutneys and individual pots of biryani served with a refreshing yogurt dip.

Since the hotel is a Spanish chain, their seafood paella is also well worth trying, we eat it with a side of fried potatoes topped with the signature red smokey sauce and plate full of lightly fried prawns in butter.

Apart from the food there is also a live singer who engages with the crowd is a great added bonus.

Once the meal is done, we wrap up and go straight to the pool on the rooftop.  Albeit the pool is small, the view of the port is wonderful and different from what we are used to seeing.  The pool area also offers a variety of ‘picnic’ style food including burgers.

Melia Hotel is located conveniently and we prefer to take the scenic Jumeirah Beach Road all the way down (contrary to the Sheikh Zayed Road route our google maps insists upon!). This is definitely our spot for those days when we want to eat, relax and of course top up on our tan!
