NOSTALGIC RECIPES WITH A CONTEMPORARY TWIST AT KHADAK

Head to Khadak to try their delicious new dishes inspired by old-school recipes and nostalgic flavours.

Khadak, the Michelin Bib Gourmand–awarded restaurant, is an ode to India’s iconic food shops and rich culinary heritage, offering a nostalgic yet refined experience that revives forgotten recipes and dying traditions has quickly become the go-to destination for those craving authentic Indian cuisine. Known for spotlighting India’s forgotten recipes and regional comfort food, they have recently launched a refreshed menu that continues its journey of honouring culinary heritage with creativity and warmth.

Nestled inside a charming Villa on Al Wasl Road, the interiors are a blend of tradition and modernity. Hand-painted murals by Indian artists flown in specifically for the project adorn the walls, bringing India’s storytelling traditions to life. The outdoor murals, with their faded, ghost-signage style, transform the space into a visual narrative that complements Khadak’s mission of celebrating India’s cultural heritage.

The new additions on the menu are an eclectic mix of regional classics, underrepresented dishes, and playful renditions, crafted with that signature Khadak style.

The Bademiyan Rabbit Sando (AED 68) is an ode to Bombay’s legendary street-side grill, reimagined as a rabbit bhuna sandwich tucked into curry leaf focaccia with melted cheddar-this bold rabbit creation, rare on most menus, adds an unexpected twist to a beloved classic.

Shuklaji’s Aloo Tikki (AED 45) refines a Lucknow street classic, layering crisp potato and sweet potato patties with chilled yoghurt and chutneys-this small dish made a huge impact on our table.

There are some welcome new additions in the grill section. The Paneer Doodhia (AED 72),  silken cottage cheese stuffed with spiced mashed potatoes, is a great vegetarian dish, while the Makhan Malai Tandoori Chicken (AED 108, full portion/AED 78 half portion) delivers a buttery, spice-laced twist on a classic favourite.

The show-stopping Raan Mussalam (AED 185), a slow-braised whole goat leg served with roast jus, baby potatoes, and taftaan bread, is a rich and indulgent main-an absolute must-try!

The fiery Murgh Angaar (AED 78), chargrilled chicken thigh marinated with chili, lime, and ginger is the perfect balance of smoky and spicy flavours.

Now that we’ve tried it, we’ll always be ordering the soulful Farzana Aunty’s Salli Boti (AED 95), a Parsi classic of tender lamb in a spicy-tangy sauce topped with crisp potato sticks

You don’t have to be a seafood lover to relish the delicate Vilayati Moilee (AED 128), seabass infused with galangal, lemongrass, and curry leaves in a rich, fragrant coconut-based sauce that’s both comforting and indulgent.

No matter how full we may be, a meal here is not complete without a few bites of something sweet. The Not-So-Gujju Chocolate Mousse (AED 55), a decadent blend of rich chocolate with a playful hint of Kashmiri chili, paired with rose and strawberry jam shrikhand and toasted hazelnuts, a dish that breaks the rules while staying deliciously true to itself. For those who prefer a comforting classic with a twist, the Pineapple & Pink Peppercorn Crumble (AED 48) offers a spiced, tropical finish, served with house-made vanilla ice cream, warm custard, or both for those who simply can’t resist.
