HOW TO TRANSITION FROM CONVENTIONAL TO GREEN MAKEUP

Green makeup

From clean skincare to now clean makeup

Lately we have observed a tremendous interest in clean beauty, which is essentially skincare products prepared with natural ingredients only. For those making the shift, to clean beauty, it is also natural to want to then use clean makeup.

If you have a keen interest in making the shift to clean makeup brands but are confused about where to look, we have done all the hard work. Our beauty editors have put together a round-up of clean makeup brands that they have either already tried or they are on the list to try.

From eyes palettes, to foundations, powders, lipsticks or mascaras, there are plenty of options- some already available on Cult Beauty or Net A Porter – are around the same price range of regular makeup brands we use.

RITUEL DE FILLE

Rituel de Fille which means “Ritual of the Girl” in French is quite well-known for its makeup products with their creamy texture and poweful hues thanks to rich pigments. The brand was founded by artists and sisters Katherine, Caroline and Michelle Ramos, who want to highlight the “magical” side of earth-derived ingredients and the power of pigment.

The makeup formulas are developed in-house through the approach of potion-making and contain 99% natural components. We especially like their round shaped collection of luminizers and creamy glows available in various powerful rosy hues. We are fans of their eye shadow pots known for their creamy formula that won’t settle into fine lines or creases.

ANTONYM COSMETICS

Antonym Cosmetics
has cult status amongst the clean beauty blogosphere for their range of baked foundations (paraben-free and mineral oil free), fitting different skin tones, providing uniformity, revitalizing and brightening the complexion while remaining transparent and light on the face. The baking process is their trademark as it turns the foundation crème into a delicately textured powder. The plus? It blends beautifully for a flawless, radiant complexion with light-reflecting properties and multi-hued shades.

If you see one available on an eshop, don’t wait too long as these beauties have become so popular that they are often sold out!

KOSAS COSMETICS

Looking for a clean blush and highlighter set that you can carry all day long in your bag for a last minute touch up while on the go? The Kosas powder blush and highlighter will do the job and won’t cost an arm and a leg: it is priced around 140 AED online on Nordstrom and is free of sulfates, phthalates, parabens, petrochemicals, mineral oil, silicone, talc and more.

You can also purchase their clean lipsticks that are known to blend comfortably onto lips and last throughout the day.

KJAR WEIS

During fashion shows and shoots, Danish-born, New York-based make up artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis noticed that many ‘conventional’ cosmetics irritated models’ skin.

That’s how she got involved in creating cosmetics using natural and organic materials, free from parabens, silicone and synthetic fragrances.

She has created a large collection, from creamy eye shadows to lipsticks, lip gloss, lip pencils, blushes, creamy fundations and more.

Her signature packaging – KW letters on top of the compact cases- is also sustainable and the cases are designed to be refillable, which allows customers to refiller their empty case either with another color or their favourite shade.

VAPOUR ORGANIC BEAUTY

Entirely made from pure minerals, essential oils and organic plant ingredients, VAPOUR offers a wonderful playground, especially if you are into lipsticks or lip glosses, with 20 appealing shades to choose from for their Siren Lipsticks and plumping lip gloss collection.

We are also fans of their eye color and eye shimmers that come in the shape of a lipstick.
