Marquee offers a boho updo made with a Hair Sewing Kit by Kevin Murphy for 130 AED only.
A hair updo always looks great no matter what occasion it is. There is one aspect of an updo that we really don’t like-all those bobby pins sticking out. Oh, and let’s not forget how the pins also have a tendency to pull the hair or then dig into the scalp.
This is why when we were invited to try out the latest offering by Marquee, a hair sewing technique that involves sewing the hair with a linen thread and needle, we just had to try it out. We were told that this cutting edge technique is much more effective than using bobby pins as the thread.
The updo begins with the stylist brushing and then spraying the hair with dry shampoo. Next comes the braiding-that is basically two braids starting from the top of the head (they are kept fairly loose). Once the braiding is completed the stylist then adds a thread that matches with your hair colour and begins the sewing around the braid starting from the top. An easy and painless process it takes 25 minutes or so if you have long hair.
The style can also be made on fairly short hair if it can be curled or braided. Although we chose to have our hair braided, you can also opt for tight curls that are then pulled into a loose bun and then roped together. Don’t worry the thread its also easy to open, all you need to do is carefully cut the thread and let is unravel.
At the salon they will charge 130 AED to make the updo but you can also buy a take home sewing kit. Sold for 100 AED a pack it comes equipped with 3 different coloured threads and 2 plastic needles. Marquee stylists are happy to have you book a consultation to learn how to sew your hair at home.
We adore this style that can be further dressed up by adding flowers, feathers or even jewellery in the hair. This cool boho look is definitely our favourite hairstyle for 2015.
