Menagerie café is serving tasty gluten-free, dairy-free and mostly vegan food at a unique location in Mirdiff.
We recently drove to Mirdiff to try out Menagerie cafe, where they pride themselves in serving wholesome food made with fresh ingredients. There are very few cafés and restaurants in Dubai serving cuisine made purely of superfoods alongside vegan, raw and gluten and dairy-free dishes so we were curious to try Menagerie. The cherry on the cake, it is located inside a lifestyle centre that brings together handpicked outlets which vary from food and beverage, fitness and health, as well as lifestyle and beauty services; all under one roof.
Since breakfast is our top favourite meal of the day, we woke up bright and early to make the trek across town during the weekend.
The café was buzzing when we walked in. Flooded with natural light, it has a lovely atmosphere. We adored the succulents and other décor details such as the frame with glass mirror filled with green plants.
The breakfast menu is filled with dairy-free, gluten-free and mostly vegan options.
Our order of the Portobello on Toast (40 AED) was an absolute hit-we also opted for the additional poached eggs on tops. This dish was full of different colors, flavors and textures. An absolute must-have, if you go there for breakfast is also the Spiced Lentils on Toast (smashed avocadoes, chickpeas, crispy kale and macadamia butter – 54 AED). The combination of the ingredients worked very well together and the dish was tasty and light.
The Buckwheat Pancakes (36 AED) were neatly stacked and topped with candied pecans, maple syrup, caramelized bananas and almond butter. As they were gluten-free the texture was a bit too-crumbly and dry for our taste and we did not like them as much the Sweet Miso Porridge (served with pieces of dragon fruit, poached pears and wild berries) which was an absolute delight (48 AED).
The ideal order for those who love something sweet (not using refined sugar) for breakfast.
Overall, Menagerie cafe is a welcome new addition in Mirdiff and breakfast is a very happy affair and although the drive is a bit long from the Jumeirah side, we were impressed and will definitely come back.
