WHERE TO ENJOY A HEARTY BOWL OF RAMEN IN DUBAI

YUi in Dubai Design District is the place to head to when you are craving ramen in Dubai.

If you love nothing more than a wholesome bowl of soup and noodles then you are in luck.  YUi, is restaurant located attached to a lifestyle store in Dubai Design District, serves exceptional bowls of ramen, that are worth queuing in line for.

The decor is minimal and the design has a Japanese aesthetic with all the furniture made in wood.  If you go early enough (they open at 12 pm), you could get a booth, or else there is always the communal table.  The open glass kitchen, overlooks the restaurant and unlike most restaurants, everyone seems to be working calmly.  The servers are friendly and very knowledgeable-overall the atmosphere is calm and zen-like.

We first tried YUi anonymously just a few days after their opening and were impressed by the quality of the dishes on the menu and albeit the choice was limited, every dish was wholesome. We returned after a month and this time met with Peter Ahn (see video above) the aesthete and perfectionist founder of Select Shop Frame (a Japanese concept store with unique items).

He walked us through YUi – which is also part of the concept store – and made us discover the new additions to  the menu.

We tried the house special Chicken Paitan Ramen (45 AED), egg noodle with chicken soup (photo on top).  A carefully composed bowl of creamy and rich broth, bouncy noodles, tender chicken and a handful of mushrooms, we slurped up every last drop! The chef special’s Tantanmen is a must try – egg noodles with broth made from chicken, seafood, vegetable and spicy sesame-peanuts paste – quite filling and flavoursome (60 AED).

If you have some appetite left have the Yaki Gyoza – dumplings made with pan fried chicken and vegetable dumplings (35 AED).

So what’s special about them? YUi sources the freshest ingredients. Chicken is sourced from a local farm near Dubai and the noodles are made in house and with imported flour from Japan – something apparently unique we were told by Peter Ahn, as most Asian restaurants in Dubai use frozen noodles. The texture of the noodles is delicate and fragile and melt in the mouth. The broth is simmered for 10 hours.

There are a variety of ramen bowls to pick from and the vegetarians aren’t left out-there is a a bowl made with 100% vegetable broth and veggie noodles.

YUi is located in Building 7, Dubai Design District.
