Peyote is a modern Mexican restaurant that has made its way to Dubai from London.
We were invited to experience Peyote, a modern Mexican restaurant in Dubai, located in the heart of DIFC. Named after a small cactus native to the Chihuahuan Desert which has long been used for medicinal and recreational purposes, Peyote stands as Dubai’s gateway to modern Mexican culture.
Already an established name in London, we were eager to try their Dubai offerings. The menu is a combination of the usual classics and more complex dishes. Of course, we began with a bowl of guacamole, which totally blew us away. An absolute explosion of flavours-it was spicy and sour all at the same time! The calamari was fried baby squid served with a generous sprinkling of a special peyote spice-and we totally loved it!
As huge fans of ceviche, we tried the halbut which was delicately marinated in lime-cilantro and served with cucumber and radish. The tostada de atun came highly recommended and was one of our favourite dishes of the night-chunky pieces of yellow-fin tuna, salsa macha, guacamole on blue corn tostada.
We couldn’t go to a Mexican restaurant and not have the tacos, and our choice of the braised beef with salsa verde and cilantro cress with a corn tortilla, hit just the right spot! The winning dish of the night was the barbacoa de cordero. The lamb shoulder had been braised for 24 hours in banana leaf and completely melted in our mouths. For those who want something lighter, do try the grilled Chilean seabass with a side of marinated pineapple habernero butter.
Overall Peyote offers a unique sensory experience with modern Mexican dishes, lively music and a unique relaxed atmosphere in a trendy setting.
